This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students face many barriers to learning and success. Some lack the necessary supplies or the motivation. As a teacher, when a student comes in with a pencil, I am able to pull one out without a question. My district has provided me with funds. No motivation? No problem, because as the adult in charge, I will always do my best to motivate and enhance the student experience. Sometimes, what we provide is not enough, or a student may miss out on breakfast or lunch for a variety of reasons.

I want to be able to give my students a snack upon request to help make sure they are not hungry while in my classroom.

This donation will add to the snacks and drinks I already provide out of my own money, and allow me to reach more students through the entire school year.

Anyone who has been around kids knows that a child who is fed concentrates better and can focus on the task at hand--rather than on their empty belly. My goal for this project is to be able to hand a snack of their choice to any child who asks in order to remove a barrier that, traditionally, teachers really have no power to help with.

Nearly 100% of my students come from a background of poverty and rely on school provided breakfasts, lunches, and after school program snacks to get themselves through the day and in many cases, through the night. By helping me fund this project, I can make sure any student who can't focus on their learning due to hunger will have a variety of options to help get them through lunch or through the period. Students who are not struggling with hunger can instead be present for learning.
