Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Part of our daily class motto includes, "I will take responsibility for my learning." Indeed my Kindergarten class has many opportunities during our school day to make choices that impact their learning. However, the lack of resources at our Listening Center can interfere with this goal.

I currently have 23 Kindergarten students.

They are all curious and full of energy. Our day is planned around lessons that engage and motivate them to learn. Our school is located in Southern California and this makes for wonderful weather. Due to the great weather my students are always asking to go on Nature Walks around our campus. During these walks their attention is easily captivated by a simple leaf or a rock. As their teacher, I believe my job includes nurturing a love of learning inside and outside of our classroom. One of their favorite activities includes Read-Aloud. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, Read-Aloud are limited. The need for additional exposure to great literature is meet during our Listening Center time. Students not only listen to a captivating story, but they are able to practice reading strategies as a follow-up activity.

My Project

The book titles I am requesting for our classroom Listening Center are essential in developing a sense of story. The follow-up activities include; characters, setting, plot, making an inference, and discussing character's feelings. Listening Center stories give students additional sound affects that are not possible during regular Read-Aloud. I see how excited and engaged they become with the story when they hear the additional sound effects.

The Read-Along Sets will allow my Kindergarten class to continue their love of reading.

The titles included in these classroom sets are essential to our collection. As you can see from our classroom library picture, my students enjoy our many resources to improve their reading skills and understanding of great literature.
