My Students

Even in the time of this pandemic, my students have never felt more eager to participate, engage, and connect with their teachers and classmates. We are still a school of go-getters, technological pioneers, and creative thinkers!

Seeing my students' faces light up with smiles when they log onto their class video chat or walk into the classroom is what keeps me inspired to make their learning experiences the very best they can be.

We are an NYC DOE middle school, but more importantly, we are a close-knit community. Students, whether in-person or remote, love staying connected with one another. They love being able to express how they're feeling and contribute their thoughts and ideas in meaningful ways using technology and digital platforms. I want to simply meet them where they're at right now.

My Project

As an educator, I'm always looking for new ways to better meet my middle school students' learning needs. That means I'm looking for online instructional tools that help me keep my students engaged throughout a lesson, enable timely feedback, and give them agency over their own learning. Moreover, I have students who have special needs who require progress monitoring in order to make sure they're moving towards their goals. Our school also uses Google Classroom. To have something that seamlessly connects through Google Drive as Pear Deck does is a game-changer. Pear Deck Individual Premium helps me design lessons that provide social-emotional check-ins, poll student responses, and create accessibility for students to type or draw their responses to various prompts and questions.

With Pear Deck, I can capture students' progress and assess their understanding of a topic in real-time.

This is a tool that not only will benefit them during remote learning but also for the long term as our schools continue integrating more instructional technology for each classroom.

The tools Pear Deck Individual Premium provide are essential now more than ever. As we operate in blended and remote learning settings, I want to ensure that students still use their voices to participate in some way, even if we are not physically present.
