My students need teaching kits for decoding, fluency, comprehension, addition, and subtraction; and phonics activity stations and reading skills cards for activities that I can use in small groups and whole group instruction. All children do not learn the same way. very important for differentiation.

My Students

Children are on the go!!! We are always moving to the meeting area and then moving again for guided groups. Children are constant on the floor working. They love working in groups as well.

I have so far a total of 25 students in the classroom.

That number will most likely increase due to many families migrating to the United States. I have children whose families come from Egypt, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Bangladesh, Italy, Mexico, and Ecuador. The children in my classroom come from homes where their language is different from English. They come into school loving to learn. Just like my classroom, the entire population in the school community is diverse.

My Project

The fluency resources will be used in small group instruction and during center time. During small group instruction, the teacher will lead the group. I call Friday, "Fun Friday," where children have the opportunity to pick a center that they like and work with their friends in that center. One item that I am requesting for the classroom is working with addition and subtraction. This kit will help the children master addition and subtraction skills in the first grade. It involves activities with small and whole groups. Another great product that I requested is to be able to reinforce language skills which covers phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. These cards feature fiction or nonfiction passages with follow up activities for a specific reading skill. A decoding and fluency kit can help children develop the foundational language skills they need in first grade and beyond.

Children will benefit from all these donations.

Children look forward to colorful objects that are hands-on. With these donations the teacher will be able to facilitate small group instruction with valuable materials. Children, too, will benefit since these donations will help them improve their reading skills, follow directions, and also improve fluency.
