Help me give my students an inspiring true story, "Reaching for the Stars" for my students of a similiar demographic background to read in my High School Special Ed. English class.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The book "Reaching for the Stars", by Jose Hernandez will be used in my Special Ed. English class. I always like to provide my students with true stories that are uplifting, positive and motivating which is exactly what this story provides. It also has a movie, that I will show after for more visual learners. I will provide them with a test at the conclusion for comprehension and a compare and contrast assignment.
This book is of significant importance as it is a true account of a migrant worker turned astronaut.
Many of my students' are of a similar background demographically. This book is very inspiring and motivating and it provides hope and vision for struggling students in my class.
My goal is to share the dream that Mr. Hernandez had during his life. My students are all qualified as Emotionally Disturbed. They are all very bright academically but struggle with depression and anxiety. This would be a great book for them to read on many different levels including incentive, influence and insight. I hope you will make our dream come true by providing us with the materials to make this journey happen! Thank you.
