Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my ICT class have been through a lot this past year, as they live in an area of New York City that has been highly affected by Covid. A few of our students have had a loved one pass away due to Covid. Economically, families are barely able to afford basics like food and warm coats in the cold months. Many of my students are not only English Language Learners but they are also Students with Disabilities. They need access to more games and centers to help motivate them to learn. They are also in need of basic school supplies like pencils, crayons, and folders at home. Despite these issues, they come to school excited, willing to learn, and respectful of others. They deserve to have not only basic supplies, but other learning resources to help make their learning more fun and interesting. I have looped with my students from second grade now up to third grade. It has been a wonderful experience to watch them grow as students and as people. I would love to be able to give them more supplies and resources to help them continue learning.

My Project

The phonics and math materials will help students practice reading skills and basic multiplication skills to help them achieve grade level in those areas. These fun games in our classroom will be used to help to motivate my students to learn hands-on with a partner or two, instead of just practicing skills on paper. These games are things they will look forward to doing when in our classroom, as they still are in a blended school setting.

Each child will receive a pack of crayons and a pair of scissors to go home and ones to keep in their own desk at school.

This way they always have access to them whether they are working from home or in our classroom. They will not have to worry about constantly bringing those supplies back and forth between school and home.
