Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend an urban high school. It is the most diverse high school in the state. My 9th and 10th grade reading students are not reading on grade level. They are in a year long reading class in order to increase their reading level. Most of my students come from literacy poor homes as well.

My students do not have easy access to quality literature.

They need access to high interest independent reading books. Most of my students come from homes with no books. They also avoid using the library because of the fear of losing books and having to pay to replace them or pay overdue fines. In my classroom, it is my goal to have enough books for all of my students.

My Project

I am requesting a class set of Wuthering Heights to include as a Victorian novel in a World Literature Class. Many of my students cannot afford to buy their own copies.

I am need of extra copies to cover students who cannot afford to purchase the text on their own in four sections of this class.

Each of these sections contains 35-40 students about half of whom will not be able to afford the book if unsupported.

Wuthering Heights will make a tremendous contribution to this class's reading experience in world literature by exposing students to an exemplar text from a period in history known commonly as a high point of the novel form.
