This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reach for the stars! That's the goal I set for my students and they are motivated in reaching that goal. My students were so excited when we started our Astronomy and The History of the Earth unit. They were so hungry for more information about these units.

My students are of different ethnic backgrounds from low income households where most are of single parenting.

My students are so excited about school and they are very motivated to learn. They care about each other and they thrive to do their very best. They know at such a young age that education is very important. One of our school creed quotes the phrase "Knowledge builds on knowledge" and do they ever make that phrase a reality. They constantly build on each others' knowledge. My students make constant connections with cartoons they watch on television with units such as the Astronomy unit and The History of the Earth unit which tells me how well they comprehend. Learning about astronomy has opened up a whole new world for my students. They see themselves becoming astronauts, scientist, geologist or just being the second person to land on the moon. Our school is a public school where most of the students are bussed in from surrounding projects and shelters.

My Project

The solar system books and the rock and mineral pocket kits will help in satisfying the hunger these students crave in getting more information. After or even during the astronomy unit, the students are always inspired to read more about what they've just learned. I try to get resources from the library for them, but they would like to have access to books whenever they can, not just on a limited basis. The children also love to use the computers. Most of them do not have an access to a computer other than in school. So with the Trudy DVD, not only would they learn to use the computer but also follow up with math and our unit on the History of the Earth that utilizes the globe and the map.

Receiving this donation will inspire my students to seek and retain more knowledge.

They will be able to borrow these resources(books) from our class library and see visuals in our classroom for constant reminders of what they learned and what they can become. Reach for the stars! That's their goal and they know reaching that goal is limitless. Thank you.
