I am a teacher at the largest and one of the most diverse high schools in Maine. Many of my students face issues with poverty, houselessness, immigration, language barriers, mental health, and more. They deserve a well-stocked and functional classroom. However, school budgets continue to be a contentious issue, so many of these items could be difficult to fit into an ever-tightening budget. This is why I'm looking for your help.
This project will re-stock several day-to-day goods for student consumption, some basic teaching supplies, and a few small one-time classroom upgrades.
- Student Goods: Hand sanitizer, tissues, and cough drops will help us through cold and flu season. Hair ties, makeup wipes, and bandages are my most oft-requested items from students, and having them on hand can help keep them in the classroom. Students always appreciate having these small comforts.
- Teacher Goods: Pencils and pens help me grade assignments and give feedback on student work. Post-it notes help us keep the minutiae of the day-to-day work of the classroom organized. Laminating pouches make great mini-posters and reusable expo-compatible graphs, worksheets, and more.
- One-Time Upgrades: I'm hoping that a Tile Slim can help keep track of our bathroom pass that goes missing frequently. Having cables to charge cell phones has made students putting up their cell phones during class easier. Remote control outlets will make operating a few electronics in the classroom easier, as the outlets are largely behind furniture or in inconvenient spots. A number line will hopefully help students quickly visualize and orient negatives and positives as we work through more complex numeracy topics.
