My Students

My students come in eager to learn everyday. They are excited to see what story I will read them each day. Even though many of my students eat breakfast at school they are more worried about when we are getting our snack then what they are learning about.

These same kids are missing the foundation skills that many kids just acquire as they grown up.

My class is from 9 different ethnic groups. Right now I don't have the hands on tools that these kids need to build the basics so we can be successful first graders and life long learners. At Cleveland we are working together to achieve more. My students will continue to benefit from activities where we can be working together to achieve.

My Project

These rekenreks will allow me a lot of different uses. First we will just build our counting skills forwards and backwards. Then we can do mental math, what's missing, and a lot of other great activities on this amazing tool.

We will definitely use these all year long, I can't wait to see my data change as a result of using the rehenreks.

The kids will be so excited to have such a versatile instrument in our classroom. Once the kids understand how these work there will so many opportunities for learning. These will create a very tactile learning experience for my little mathematicians.
