I work in an area of extremely high poverty with free lunch and breakfast for all of the students in my school.
I have a large group of kindergartners who are ready to blossom as readers, writers, and mathematicians.
School is a fun and safe place for my students and it is my job to make sure they want to come to my class and that they have what they need to be successful. They need to move throughout the day while they work and play.
My Project
I have had the opportunity to use Raz-Kids in my Kindergarten classroom for the last 6 years with the help of DonorsChoose. With this program, my students are able to read books at their own individual reading level. This is an independent way to practice on an iPad while the teacher is working with guided reading groups. I can not say enough great things about this website. My students are motivated and love to read books on their own. They also have a chance to practice answering comprehension questions about the stories that they are reading.
This program helps my Kindergarteners navigate the iPads which helps with our NWEA testing!
They get extra practice navigating the site and how to click the "speaker" icon to listen to the question and answer. I feel this helps them prepare to take the test so we can get more accurate results.
Without DonorsChoose and many wonderful donors having this resource in my classroom would not happen. My students can use Raz-Kids in my room to practice reading as well as at home. I am excited to introduce the joy of Raz-Kids to a new group of students and let them explore exciting texts.
