This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have created an esports program at my school to provide my learners with equitable experiences and opportunities exploring the possibilities in pursuing a career in competitive gaming. We have recently implemented a gaming pathway where we are teaching the fundamentals of game design and coding, and we are now looking to take it further by providing them the opportunity to explore the content creation side of gaming!

My ultimate goal is to use the materials provided through this project to teach my learners the operations of a high quality live-stream gaming experience, including shoutcasting, audio/video control, lighting, software management (OBS, elgato, etc), scene selections/transitions and much more!

With the cameras and microphones provided, the learners will learn how to properly capture the players competing along with our shoutcasters along with mixing/balancing the audio. With an iPad, the learners will have a centralized device where they can store all photos and videos, create social media posts, edit videos/clips from games and handle other administrative duties that come with being a social media manager.

The majority of my learners are economically disadvantaged, so I often hear from parents that they do not want their kids being around a ton of video games. My part in all of this is to show them that these learners are capable of doing great things and having a successful career in the gaming world. They've already done an incredible job in competitions, and now its time to take their skills to the next level!
