Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom are typical 21st century students who gain the most knowledge and understanding from hands on STEM activities. I want my students to leave knowing more than just spreadsheets, word documents, and clicking a mouse. I want them to be creators and inventors of the future.

We have experimented with Makey Makey, Stop Motion, Squishy Circuits, Minecraftedu, Ev3 Robotics, Ozobots, Scratch , Code.org, and Stop Motion Video Creation.

For many of the students, school is the only place they have access to computers and the Internet and can learn about computer programming.

My Project

My students have a strong desire to be part of the technology age. Most of their time is spent using technology, this project will put them in the driver's seat and let them create with technology. Raspberry Pi 3 kits with the starter project kits are so affordable, my students can create their own working computer systems for under a hundred dollars.

Using these Raspberry Pi in small groups, the students will use Scratch to program and control various lights and gadgets included in the project kits requested.

I believe that being able to interact with the computers at an engineering and programming level will help open up the minds of all my students. Hopefully, this will expand their horizons and possibly help create a desire to become thinkers and doers of the 21st Century instead of just consumers.
