Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever read a book that was just too difficult for you? You likely felt frustrated and maybe even abandoned that book. Help prevent my first grade readers from feeling the same way.

I teach in an urban school in an impoverished neighborhood.

All of my students received free or reduced-price lunch, and many speak Spanish at home. Few of my students have books at home, which makes it even more important that my students have high-quality, appropriate books to take home and read.

My Project

As my students grow as readers, they need books that fit their literacy needs. Our classroom library has a number of books that are appropriate for adults to read aloud to children, but few books that are at a "just-right" level for my students to read independently. A leveled lending library will provide my students with books they can read alone, providing them with better opportunities for success - and the opportunity to grow as readers. These books will support some of my developing readers who have outgrown some of the easiest texts in my classroom, but who are not yet ready for many of the trade books I have that are geared toward read alouds.

Our class loves to read, but we lack the books necessary to help each child blossom as an increasingly fluent reader.

Your donation will provide my students with confidence and the materials necessary to become stronger readers.
