Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach English language learners in a high poverty public elementary school. My students are a group of intelligent third and fourth grade English language learners with a desire to learn. Additionally, my students face a big challenge in school given that they are expected to perform at the level of their English-speaking peers, even though they are learning a new language in addition to content material. Despite the challenges of a language barrier and tough living conditions, my students like all children, love to learn and they love using technology. Often, the only exposure that they get to a computer is in school and therefore every opportunity they have is exciting and immediately engages them in learning.

My Project

At my school we are always looking for new ways to motivate and encourage our scholars. We want to have pep rallies, kickoff events and celebrations to get students, parents, staff and the community excited about our school. What better way to add excitement to those events than to have our own Eagle Mascot to make a guest appearance! We anticipate having a contest to name the Eagles, 1 adult and 2 children, to get the scholars more involved. Depending on the location and type of event, the various Eagle costumes would be beneficial.

To get our smaller scholars involved, the smaller costumes would be a great asset.

We also need kid friendly games for the scholars to play during Fun Fridays. Kinect is a motion sensor device that works with the Xbox. We need Kinect Sports Rivals so that the students can have fun playing a video game. They won't even realize they're getting great exercise. They chose the Lego, Hasbro, and racing games. For those racing games and board games, up to 4 players can play at the same time. However, we only have access to 1 controller. That is why we need 3 additional controllers, chargers, and the battery packs. Help make our rallies, events, and celebrations extra special and fun by supporting this great project.
