This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Early exposure to reading is crucial in a child's development and understanding of language and how words work together. Children develop much of their capacity for learning in the first three years of their lives. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. Reading can help students improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills. In addition, Reading can help students develop social skills, such as communication skills. Reading aloud can also help students build self-confidence.

Reading can also help students make connections predict storylines, and evaluate details.

All students should have access to reading materials. Studies have shown that children who are exposed to reading prior to preschool tend to develop larger vocabularies and are more likely to succeed during their formal education. If a child is not proficient in reading by 3rd grade, they are at a higher risk of not graduating from high school.
