This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach everyday come from a home where English is not the first language. Their parents have moved to the U.S. in hopes of giving their children the opportunity of the "American Dream." Some my students have limited schooling in their own language and while others have limited access to English at home. Many students come from a variety of cultures backgrounds in which English is not spoken therefore they are known as "ELLs" (English Language Learners).

My students are lovers of learning and are so eager to master English.

They are curious about the world around them. Their ability to be able to access the world of learning is limited in their homes and in our classroom. I work in a large school with a high immigrant population in the northwest part of the Bronx. My class is a second grade class that consists of 30 ELLs.

My Project

We live in a tech savvy world and the lack have technology tools at home/school impact my student's learning. Your donation would increase their access to technology in our classroom. Our classroom currently has a SmartBoard but no electronic device to support it during instruction and group work. I am requesting 4 Chromebooks for our classroom so students can use in all subject areas for a variety of uses.

During writing my students can use the Chromebooks in small groups to research on a topic for their writing pieces such as: historical figures like MLK Jr.

(for autobiographical writing pieces) or plant diversity (informational science reports). During Literacy, interactive SmartBoard activities can be used to engage students in the development of vocabulary, closely reading articles as whole class, literacy center activities focused on phonemic awareness and for small groups using them for an online library (literacy program-MyOn) where they to listen to stories as they follow along. During Math workshops students can engage in videos modeling concepts and skills, mathematical interactive SmartBoard activities and in small group work for mathematical word problems.
