My Project

Raising chickens at school has many benefits. Students learn to take responsibility for caring for them, they learn through hands-on experiences about nature, food production, and animal care.

Raising chickens provides real world applications in math, science, language arts, and social studies.

This also encourages students to work together fostering team work, communication, and cooperation skills. Interacting with animals can also help to reduces stress and anxiety.

Chickens also provide natural pest control, reduce kitchen waste of uneaten fruits and vegetables, and provide eggs for human consumption. Students will engage in this by helping to collect kitchen scraps from our cafeteria, feeding the chickens, and collecting the eggs.

Chickens can be quite social if they are treated as pets, and my hope is that the students will name them and treat them as beloved pets.
