My Project

Third grade is an incredible year for student learning and exploration. With this aquarium chiller and a generous grant from the Oregon Fish and Wildlife program, Arleta third graders will incubate, study, and release salmon fry back into the local watershed. This Donor's Choose Project will fund the Aquarium Water Chiller that maintains temperatures that salmon fry need to survive.

Both third grade classes will learn about salmon life cycles and their habitats through this hands-on project.

Classes will also study the cultural significance of salmon and salmon fishing for Native Americans living in this area, past and present. This project will provide opportunities to connect environmental science and social science right in the classroom. The culmination with be a field trip to the local watershed to release these salmon fry back into their native habitat!
