My Students

All students can remember small group reading with the teacher. Our classroom currently only has one table that is able to fit 3 students. I would love to be able to work with 5 or 6 students in a small group setting and having a horseshoe table would allow ample room for the students.

We are located in Moore, OK.

Our students lives were forever changed on May 20th. The school has over 50% free and/or reduced lunch rates, which means the school is in a lower-income area. We have a great support system, but no funding for things that are needed for the classroom. The students come to school everyday ready to learn and they are excited about what the day holds in store. The students would greatly benefit from having extra items in the classroom.

My Project

I am requesting a horseshoe table for my classroom so that I may provide my students with everyday small-group instruction. The table would also be used for one-on-one intervention, which has to be done especially this year with the new retention law going into effect. The table would serve many purposes other than small group instruction. It would be the central hub of the classroom. Small group instruction is a major part of our curriculum in the 3rd grade. Studies have shown that students greatly benefit from one-on-one and small group teacher led instruction. I provide extra intervention for the lowest achieving 3rd graders and this table would provide the space needed for those activities.

This table would make a great impact on our classroom atmosphere.

As the teacher, it would provide a place to be centrally located in the classroom to better help the students. This table would also provide a place for parent/teacher conferences, which take place two-to-three times a year. A table will have a major impact on student learning. Students listen better when a teacher can sit face-to-face with them and explain concepts and this table would provide those opportunities.
