My Students

I teach an energetic group of students with special needs in an urban Title I charter school in Baltimore City. They want to learn so much about the world around them and what's beyond the walls of our classroom. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn.

My students' disabilities range from Autism to Learning Disabilities and I find that the more hands-on and interactive learning can be, the more beneficial it is to my students.

Due to their disabilities, I am constantly changing up my teaching practices and finding new and exciting ways to reach and challenge my students without having them become frustrated and give up.

This year, I am teaching a group of 1st-4th graders in a pull-out setting, where I am helping them access the general education curriculum while also helping fill in the many learning gaps that they currently have.

My Project

My students (all of whom have special needs) are met with challenges when it comes to reading. Sounding out words is a major challenge that we can continue to work on. Once students are able to master sounding out words, or breaking words apart into parts they can confidently read, the art of reading becomes so much easier.

I am always looking for new and exciting ways to engage them in different reading games and activities.

Using hands-on, interactive activities and games, helps me keep my students engaged and excited about their learning. The activities, puzzles and games that I'm requesting will help my students work on specific reading skills that are challenging for them. This skill practice will help my students become much more fluent readers! The phonics games and puzzles will help my students master much needed phonics skills and the language games will help us practice different writing and speaking skills including grammar (verbs, nouns, etc) and sentence formation. The different sorting activities will help my students gain a better understanding of the written language and be able to begin mastering the art of reading!

I am so excited to be able to get these resources to use with my students!
