Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a low-income but highly spirited high school. The 400 students are almost 100% Black and Hispanic, with a few Middle Eastern and a few Asian students.

The students are a community eager to feel safe in the place they live, but often feel unsafe because of the color of their skin or the languages they speak.

The students are also a group of youngsters who are eager to learn how to make a change in their communities and in society. Let's help them to learn the methods and strategies to make change!

My Project

My high school students are growing up in a time when racism is in their faces every day of their lives. Whether it is on their way to school or while sitting in school, or even while sitting at home, society is constantly telling them they are not equal to the white people and that no one seems to care about this inequity.

This library will allow students to read books where they are the characters, where they are the authors, and where the realities of racism and strategies to fight against it can be discussed.

Once we return to school, we will use the books as a take home library and as a place where they can have peer led discussions about growing up in a society where they are at risk every day they wake up. Won't you please help me to create a library for my students of today so they can become empowered young adults tomorrow?
