Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. As a team, we do everything in our power to prepare them for the world they will inherit. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households, grandparents or extended family members and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Even though they may have struggles at home, they are eager to learn and have the desire to succeed.
Unique, creative, expression, and excited are words I would use to describe my students.
They love to be challenged and learn new things! They get excited when they see today we will do an activity rather than book work!
My Project
Each year as we discuss Newton’s Laws and Physics, my kids are quickly bored and overwhelmed with all the information. They struggle to see the connections.
This year, the kids will engineer their own cars to race with classmates.
Students will diagram where each of Newton’s Laws are represented and then calculate the speed of their cars! The trebuchet will be used to hook and engage the students for learning about physics! Kids who finish early will have inquiry time to design experiments using it as well! I know these hands on activities will help my kids grow as engineers and learn Physics!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
