Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having access to books, whether inside or outside of the home, is not a reality for all kids. As a school that serves students of different ethnic backgrounds and from low-income families, it is our responsibility to ensure students have access to high interest and quality books.

One of the core values of our school is to represent each and every student in our collection.

When students can see themselves, their cultures, and their families in books, they are more likely to check out and read these books. It is proven when students read books, they have higher academic success, vocabulary development, attention, and job attainment. When students have diverse books with diverse characters, settings, and story lines, students are able to develop more empathy and understanding for those around them.
