Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher and recent graduate of Texas Southern University. I am also an active member of ATPE working as a campus representative. I work in the Greater Southwest Houston area for Houston Independent School District. I am excited about my first year. The majority of my student population is Hispanic and African American. My school is a Title I school. My goal is to be sure that all my students have the supplies they will need this school year to be successful in all ways possible.

My Project

The resources I have chosen are important to me and my students because it allows them more diverse options when it comes to independent reading. Although, I have an excellent classroom library I am noticing that some of the books are just not as interesting as some are reading at home. After talking with my students and learning what truly interest them, I was able to put together this list of books that I know they will really truly enjoy. I also believe that it will benefit my students during guided reading as well. I know my students will truly enjoy the selections I chosen.
