My Project

The PreK room is an opportunity for our young learners to make sense of the world around them. The bodies and brains of our students are engaged in learning, moving to music, and interacting with their classmates throughout the day. They are busy practicing what they know and learning new concepts in math, reading, social studies and science.

Taking time from the rigor of learning allows our youngest students time to learn how to be mindful of their body at rest, learning that they can also be quiet and calm.

This quiet time, being comfortable at being alone, is a time for encouraging independence and self-reliance.

As the students are quiet and relaxing, they will have choice in the opportunities to engage in imaginative, open-ended play with the activities in this project. These letter, magnet, puzzle, and sensory activities will also help our little ones develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The ability to quietly and independently engage in these activities will even positively impact the time when their bodies and brains are challenged from their academic learning.
