Quiet Please... I'm Trying to Learn!

My Project

The lack of resources in our community is a major hurdle for our school to overcome. We do not have easy access to many opportunities as we are located approximately twenty miles from the nearest town with convenient shopping.

Running into town for school supplies and replacements isn't an easy task for many of our districts families.

My Project

In my fourth grade classroom, students have frequent opportunities for independent online study. We use headphones on a regular daily basis with online resources to investigate a wide variety of topics such as space exploration and planets, the life cycle of plants and animals, books about each of our 50 U.S. states, and countless other areas as our curiosity arises. We enjoy going on virtual museum tours and sharing the fascinating things we see and hear with one another.

This year has taught us the importance of independence and digging deeper with research on topics that we are passionate about. Often, students come to school with inadequate headphones that barely survive the first week leaving the kids with a less than optimal listening experience. High quality headphones will allow my students to focus on learning rather than struggling with defective equipment. And with the addition of splitters, two students will get to share and enjoy the same experience on their device together.

My goal is to have a pair of headphones readily available for each of my students and several pairs on standby as backup for those unanticipated emergencies. The headphones will stay a part of the classroom supplies and be available for next years students as well.
