Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Trenton, New Jersey is (and this is amazing!) a sanctuary city. Students from nations all over the world immigrate to Trenton with their families. The city, although economically poor in many areas, is rich in cultures and heritage from all corners of the world. We have a growing population of Hispanic immigrants, most speaking their native language Spanish.

My goal is to show my Spanish speaking students care best by learning Spanish - I will use these headphones for our subscription to utilize a 1-on-1 language learning program in order to both communicate together and relate to each other in a more interpersonal way.

I want to make their learning experience in my classroom as fun, inviting, and easy as possible. Being able to speak to them in their language to help them through difficult times or simply just to show them that I am making an effort to embrace their culture will help create this environment.

If you help support this project you will support both my personal professional development and the social and emotional well-being of my students. Representation for these students matters, especially for those who are just arriving to our country. We need to welcome them as teachers and embrace their language as they embrace ours.
