Quick Classroom Spruce Up

Help me give my students a more inviting environment! With just a few changes in the classroom (adding color, organizational supplies, and even pencil so we aren't constantly at the pencil sharpener) we can really spruce that place!

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school in San Diego and have the opportunity of teaching a very diverse group of students. We have grown together, learned together, struggled together, persevered together, laughed together, and yes even cried together.

I want my students to know that I not only see their differences and needs, but understand and accept them as well.

In our class we spend a lot of time on social emotional learning and becoming compassionate students that can work together. We are constantly exploring different careers and passions to try and figure out what we love. Whether my students choose college, trade school, the military, etc. I think that the subjects often pushed aside, like health and nutrition and science, are as equal as the others when it comes to having kids explore what they love in life. There is so much out there for them and their paths are bright!

My Project

Being in the same room every day for 6 hours all school year can really become a drag. We've all done it. Had to sit in a room that we dreaded and when we thought about coming back the next day we would rather be sick and stay home.

I want my students to walk into my classroom and see an inviting, warm, and colorful environment.

It is only the start of what makes a student want to be at school but I think when I student likes their classroom they want to come back and that is a HUGE step in getting a student to be successful.

With just a few items I will be able to make the walls more colorful, organize their supplies into their own personal pencil pouch that can be taken home and to their other classes so they will always have the supplies needed at hand, and even spray paint a few items in the classroom and bring them back to life. A quick classroom spruce up!
