My Students

Having a tablet in the classroom can help my students quench their thirst for knowledge and bring them into the 21st century of a technologically moving world.

My students are creative, clever, and inquisitive and they are eager to know more and do more.

Their curious nature is adored and their numerous questions are encouraged. They are driven to get more information from books, magazines, T.V, and other people. They work hard in all of their subjects and simply want a way to discover more. The Internet is the key. However most of the computers in our school are archaic and cannot be updated. I teach in a low socioeconomic area in which many children do not have access to technology since families have limited financial resources. In addition, the city in which I teach has plans to close the city library and at my school we are unable to use the library because of our lack of funds to get a librarian. It is challenging for my students to quench their thirst for knowledge when they are losing access to books and cannot even search on the Internet.

My Project

I would like a tablet for my classroom so that they have the ability to research the various topics we discuss in class. They can go to their favorite author’s website to read about them or look up artists’ lives that we are learning about and view their pictures. They can then write biographies on the famous people or places that they research. In addition, our school district has a new reading and math program which both have technology components, however we have not been able to access them. It would be wonderful if students can learn the standards in a different, engaging, and meaningful way. We can go to specific websites where students can practice their skills or challenge themselves as well as use various Apps.

People learn in different ways whether it be auditory, visual, or kinesthetic and when they learn they like it to be interesting and at times interactive.

Children are no different. They too like to be engaged in an interesting way which using a tablet can provide. I hope my students get an opportunity to satisfy their inquisitive minds.
