Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our high school serves some of the most vulnerable youth in NYC. We are a transfer school where 16-21 yr olds can return to high school and earn a high school diploma in a small setting with more attention and love than the schools that have failed them. Our kids may have fallen off track due to illness, family conflict, grief, bereavement, anxiety, substance abuse, depression, and most commonly due to a lack of attention in the larger NYCPS traditional high schools. As the school social worker I attempt to tend to the mental health concerns of all 200 students year by year. We graduate some of the most vibrant, special, and resilient young men and women this city will see. I dig in my own pocket to purchase Schilling NeeDoh products because they’re awesome. The feel, the color, the quality are amazing. It would exciting to have a stockpile so I could be more generous with the kids, they ask to take home the stress balls everyday but I usually only purchase a handful every couple months that can be gifted because they’re pricey! But the price is worth it!
