Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a certified art teacher, and am currently teaching grades k-5 regular and special education art classes. I work in the Bronx, NY, in a high need community. My students are eager to learn, are appreciative, and value their educations. Most of my students are immigrants from the West Indies, including Jamaica, Guyana, and the Virgin Islands.

Most of my students have not had a regular art curriculum in years. They are very excited to be learning the basics of art and are doing very well with all of their projects. The problem that we have is that we are running out of paper quickly, and because there was not an art teacher in the past few years, we do not have many supplies. My school has already spent their budget and say that there is no more money for me to purchase art supplies. Because I am a single working mother of three children of my own, I cannot afford to meet all of their supply costs out of pocket, and depend on Donors Choose for support in the education of my students.

I need some quality watercolor papers, and some basic supplies like glue sticks, glitter, craft items, tissue paper, and various types of paints that my students have not worked with. These resources will benefit my students because they will be able to work hands on with a variety of different media, and create different projects each week. They will learn through creating beautiful and unique artwork. By helping to fund my proposal you will bring them so much joy.

You will make it possible for my students to explore the artists within each of them. They will be able to get a well rounded art curriculum and will be able to experience many different types of arts materials and projects. If you could only see how their eyes light up when I tell them about the wonderful people who donate our "goodies" to the class. They are so appreciative, and it shows in their faces, and their artwork. The feel like someone has given them a gift when I tell them about the proposals that have been funded by generous donors like you. With your help we can enable the children to express themselves artistically. Thank you for donating to the future artists, architects, writers, teachers, and illustrators in my classroom. Each and every student will be touched by your kindness.
