Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredible 7th and 8th-grade students from a very diverse inner-city school. Most of my students come from Main South, and 100% of my students receive free lunch. My students can be very challenging at first, so I try to build a positive and trusting relationship with them. A lot of my students come from traumatic and broken homes, and I work extra hard to make my classroom as inviting and homey as possible.

At my school, minorities are the majority.

Spanish is one of the electives offered and my students get to learn about the Spanish language and culture through units and class projects. Spanish is a fast-growing language and is predicted to be the most popular language by 2050, and my goal is to help my students be prepared for this.

My Project

¿Qué Tal?, is a bi-monthly magazine subscription that will allow my students to learn about Spanish- speaking countries. With limited resources and text-books that are 12 years old, this magazine will help engage my students in our target language. This magazine will help my students connect with other countries and will help them learn about current events, different cultures, and research-based scaffolding activities.

By giving to my project, you will be giving to 120 students from an inner-city school that are eager to learn about the Spanish- speaking world.

You will be helping by giving my students reading material that will spark interest in other cultures other than their own. You will help my students expand their reading material which will help improve their speaking, listening and comprehension skills.
