My Project

My students struggle with many mental health issues including attention deficit and anxiety which lead to academic and social issues. Alternative ways for them to be able to focus are not only beneficial they are crucial for their learning success. Fidgets and calming strips are an easy discrete way for them to be able to self-regulate and create a pathway for being able to complete work. Students can easily rub a calming strip while reading a passage or pop bubbles and complete math problems. They are proven to increase focus in the general population and are extremely effective in students with learning differences.

A traditional desk and chair are not ideal learning environments for all students especially ones with attention/focus issues.

A stand-up desk and walking pad will allow them to move while working which then increases their ability to focus. This option will offer the possibility of movement to the student who does not fit into the traditional classroom structure. With the freedom to pace and move the student will be able to focus on the academic task at hand. Some students need to have a safe place to work out their frustration and other mental health issues. The walking pad will give them a safe space within the classroom to do this rather than unsupervised in the hallway. Alternative workspaces are an effective way to increase student academic success.
