Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students are excited to come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am working to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, especially during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.
My Project
I would like to support my kids in the classroom by helping them to see themselves in our puzzles, books, and also in our health care items, like bandages. "That looks just like me!" Puzzles with pictures of black and brown kids are exciting to see in a classroom and relatable to my little ones. Sienna and taupe bandages need to look just like my kids, too! Books about kids that look like my kids would be wonderful! I am also supporting businesses that looks just like my students. The products that I am requesting are from BIMPOC-Owned companies (Black, Indigenous, Multiracial, and People of Color), and other diverse creators and products.
Puzzles and books that are a visual representation of my students will inspire my kids to learn by seeing themselves in the books and materials we read and play with.
Bandages that are the same skin color as my kids will help them to blend in with their boo-boo's, because all shades of brown are beautiful!
I hope to inspire my students with problem-solving skills that puzzles help to promote. I love the bandages in student-color! What a better way to show kids you care than to show that you SEE THEM!
Thank you for helping me to support my kids and my classroom.
