My Students

My first graders are always eager and motivated to learn! They take on challenges with delight and excitement! They are ready to jump into In-Person Learning Finally!

My first graders strive to be the best students they can be and work diligently every day to reach their full academic potential.

I teach in a self-contained classroom in New Jersey. Our inner-city school district has a majority of students from low economic backgrounds. Most students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. They come to school with very limited materials and resources for their use. My students are in need of the basic supplies used each day in school to be successful.

My Project

My students are beginning in-person learning for the first time since pre-school! My students need to learn a plethora of concepts and skills across the first grade curriculum. First graders learn through action and being able to touch manipulatives.

In first grade, getting their hands on manipulatives for counting, number sequence, addition and subtraction, financial literacy and money and so much more is the key to understanding and learning success.

This year, I need to make all of these manipulatives available in a kit for each student to have their own due to the need to follow all Covid-19 precautions.

The materials I am seeking for my class will give my students the chance to master skills taught using manipulatives while maintaining a safe distance and having their own personal resources to work with.
