Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title One School in NY. Our students need all the support and experiences that they can get. Our students are kind, responsible, respectful, honest kids who want to change the world for the better. They're truly determined and passionate about innovative learning and I really want to give them this opportunity. They are makers by nature, and we need to foster their abilities with the necessary tools. Many of our kids do not have access to laptops or desktops at home, so there is no way for them to learn the necessary foundation using technology. The best part about them is that they are such philanthropists. Anyway they can give back, even with the little they have themselves, they give! We raise money for charities such as The March of Dimes, Breast Cancer Awareness, Pennies for Patients, NYC homeless shelters, and much more! In 2016 our school was listed on the top 25 schools who have donated the most to charity!

My Project

Can't teach STEAM without ART! Our school doesn't have enough money in the budget to have a full time art teacher so I try to incorporate art any chance I can get. Since I see all the students in my school, I have to opportunity to not only teach my STEM concepts, but really incorporate the art component as well.

I am a teacher who uses recycled materials to create art (& everything else), but that's just not enough; we need art supplies.

Since I teach STEAM, my room is catch all for everything technology based, with math manipulatives, resources, etc. I am asking for a designated art cart which will house these art supplies. Some of the supplies such as the canvases, watercolors, and oil pastels will be used to get our early education students ready to learn about science; specifically how oil and water do not mix. I plan on continuing my Stop Motion enrichment, so we will use the sharpies, glue gun, and paper cutter to create our settings for these still frame shots.
