My Project

I hope to get a color printer to help bring primary sources to life for my 7th-grade Civics students. Teaching about the history surrounding the US government and critical historic foreign policy events doesn’t have to be boring; I love doing gallery walks and investigations in class to encourage students to get interested and explore for themselves.

Students can hold history in their hands with high-quality print outs of primary sources.

Engagement is so critical in a state-tested subject, and with 86% of my students passing their state last year, I am constantly looking for new ways to excite my 7th graders and get them moving around the room. Why exhaust students with a PowerPoint lecture on the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence when we can complete an investigative gallery walk and take in the primary sources of the time, including the original newspaper printings and political cartoons? With so much reliance on technology in the post-covid classroom, I want to provide more tangible learning opportunities from the Chromebooks. Thank you for any help keeping the subject of Civics fun and relevant.
