Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a 1st grade class in a high poverty school district. With the current expectations within the school systems, there are certain materials and supplies not given to us or sent in from the parents due to economic needs. Over 90% of my students receive free lunch within our school.

At times there are many challenges these students may face, however, when they are in the classroom, I do not want them to think about any of these.

I would like for my students to have a sense of community and have the most creative and meaningful environment when in school. By encouraging this within my classroom, I am hoping to inspire these learners to be the best that they can be within their lives.

My students are extremely motivated individuals who love to work with their teacher in small group. In our classroom, we have small group work completed within ALL subject areas. This gives students the opportunity to learn according to their own individualized needs.

My Project

I really want to put a smile on my 1st grade students faces! I think this entire pandemic has had an impact on ALL of us whether we are adults or children. A simple gesture such as this, could bring such joy to their little hearts. Within our neighborhood, where our school is, parents may not be given the opportunity to go buy something for their children at the moment due to job loss etc. I am hoping this can bring some HAPPINESS to my first graders.

Something as simple as reading a new book can allow them to practice their reading skills.

Also, during GOOGLE MEETS maybe we can read this book as a class and really enjoy the time together. Within the sketch book, the students can sketch daily. What kid doesn't love drawing and coloring?

I really hope you can help me do this for my First Grade Students!
