Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in areas and situations that we can only imagine. Despite the hardships of their daily lives, they come to school eager to learn.

Students who come to the library see it as a haven from the chaos of their day to day lives and look forward to using the library as a respite and learning center for things that many others take for granted.

Many of the students have the same hopes and dreams as their peers in the suburbs; with your help, they can achieve their goals.

My Project

Students will read a book of their choosing and interpret that work into an art cloud or erbu, a traditional Eastern form of art. Along with learning how to express themselves in another way, students will learn a centuries old method of bookmaking! By floating colors in water, then dipping specially treated paper into the paint, students will be left with a permanent reminder of their interpretation of the feeling a book gave them. Every time they look at their creation, they will be reminded of the generosity of others and will have learned a new form of expression. I plan to display their work before they take it home, can you imagine the pride when students see their one of a kind creation shared with the whole school? In addition to being exposed to art in the library, students take part in a tradition dating back hundreds of years.

With your kind donation, students will be able to translate their feelings about a book into a work of art!

After reading a book, many are left with impressions that cannot be put into words, with this project, students can use the ancient tradition of erbu to express their feelings.

Students are used to the drudgery of the same old book reviews and reports, with this project, they will be exposed to expression in a form new to most of them and will learn that there are multiple ways to share information!
