Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our children are dreamers. They are eager and motivated to learn. They come from families who are hard-working, and they are teaching their children that same motivation for learning. Many of our families fall below the national poverty levels; some experiencing the situation of being homeless or are home insecure. In addition, English is a second language for the majority of our families or they are bilingual households.

Every child deserves a great start.

Our children deserve no less than great. Our children are getting ready for Kindergarten, and it is our job to prepare them! Having the right materials and devices is a large part of preparing students for school success!

My Project

My students have asked me for puppets so they could put on puppet shows. They have made due with what we have but they could really benefit from a puppet theater, puppets and storage for the puppets. I am asking for things that can be added to our existing space as sometimes puppet theater's can take up a lot of room. The fold-able style of the puppet theater will allow for us to store it when not in use and the storage organizers will allow for us to hang them on an existing wall to store the puppets when not in use.

Children benefit in many ways from playing with and using puppets.

Some of the ways children benefit are social and emotional development. Children who are very shy can use the puppet to speak, this has been shown to boost confidence in children's speaking abilities. Using puppets encourages students to speak out loud in front of peers. Children can put on a show with peers and this aids in group participation. Children work together to create a show. They must talk about what they want their show to be about and agree about how the show will work in order to put on a good show. Another benefit is the use of imagination. Children can create a story and come up with a script, constructing sentences to tell a story. Another less thought of skill development is that of fine motor skills (strengthening of muscles in the hands) as children manipulate a puppet to talk and move.

Having all of these skills will aid my children in Kindergarten. Learning through play is best for a preschool student. Puppets are one way I want to encourage my students to learn through play.
