This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How can students learn with out paper for handouts, writing, and visual anchor charts?

I am currently a middle school English Language Arts teacher for special education students.

I teach in a high needs New York City middle school. The focus of my classroom is to create life-long learners. My students are English Language Learners and also have very diverse needs due to their disabilities. The majority of the students in my school are struggling financially. Some of our students even reside in shelters. Most students qualify for the state's free or reduced price meal program. Often times, the students come without the necessary materials to succeed in school. My school has lost money in the recent budget cuts and teachers are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they require to begin the school year stocked with the supplies students need to be successful every day.

My Project

My classroom would benefit from copy paper to make worksheets and resource pages. We would also benefit from receiving loose leaf and chart paper. This would allow students to continue working on their writing skills and take important notes throughout the year. The chart paper would allow me to create visual aids and anchor charts for each unit of study to post in the classroom.

My students would benefit greatly from these essential paper supplies.

They will be much more interested and excited to learn. They will be able to work directly in their binders to improve their skills and use their creative minds. They will not become frustrated or disengaged because the work would be organized, colorful charts would be posted, and they would have necessary worksheets. These diverse students will be able to grow with this spark for learning!
