Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a school that strives to create a challenging learning environment and encourages high expectations for success. We achieve this through engaging and relevant instruction while nurturing individual differences and learning styles. Our school is a beautiful melting pot of cultures, and we place equity at the forefront of our teaching.

The first day of the new school year is September 4, 2019, so I have yet to meet my students.

I anticipate a diverse group of 5th graders, with various talents and interests. I am looking forward to working alongside them to build a classroom community that is respectful, warm, safe, and energized. My educational philosophy is that every child can learn, and I look forward to the amazing growth we will have together!

My Project

One of my main goals as a teacher is to instill the love of reading into my students- especially before they venture off to middle school! I like to offer flexible seating options during independent work time so that students can feel right at home, in the classroom. I've also noticed that students are more enthusiastic and engaged in their learning when given an alternative choice to sitting at their desk. These pillows will ensure that students are comfortable as they read their favorite texts and grow to become reader-leaders. There are beautiful windows in our classroom, and I can't wait to see students reading and learning against these pillows. Lastly, I've added the colorful pom poms to add flair and pizzazz to our ceiling!
