My Students

The students who attend my high school are excited and enthusiastic learners. Having just endured a full year of distance learning, they have become very technology literate, and are excited about bringing those new skills back next year when we finally get to work together in person again.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds, but are united in that they are collaborative learners and work together to learn challenging, mathematical concepts and skills.

This comes in the form of working in small groups every day with a special focus on inclusivity towards students who are not yet "math confident." When individuals make specific breakthroughs, or overcome their personal mathematical challenges, they are celebrated by their classmates. By learning math in this way, we build community within math classes that leads to better learning achievements.

My Project

When students make mathematical breakthroughs, or complete difficult problems, they are asked to share their accomplishments with the class. This is both to celebrate their work, and also so other students in the class can learn from the progress being made. This practice also imbues students with mathematical confidence because they are learning from their peers.

With distance learning increasing technological literacy amongst students, an Apple TV allows students to easily share the work they are doing on Chromebooks or iPads with the rest of the class.

Particularly, as we navigate the safety protocols of our return to in person learning, having them to project their work from their personal device lets gives students the benefit of sharing their work publicly while also keeping everyone socially distanced and safe. Finally, letting students project their work straight from their desks cuts down on transition times, and allows more time for learning!
