My students need these class sets of Native American books, and American Folktale books so they can begin laying their foundation of American History.

My Students
Do you remember the first time you heard someone older than you talk about life before you were born? Your curiosity ran wild. What was it like? What did they do differently? What did they wear? Did they watch T.V.? These are questions my students have when I teach about life in the past!
My students are AMAZING!
They attend an inner city, Title I school in South Carolina. They face many challenges from home, but always rise to the occasion. They do not let adversity, low socio-economic status, and poverty hold them back from achieving. Our school holds them to high standards and they work hard to achieve greatness. We are an ARTS school and my students reflect that style of learning. They love to sing, dance, creatively move, draw, and perform. If this proposal is funded I plan to use their arts skills to perform a play based on the life of Johnny Appleseed.
My Project
The resources I am asking for will be far reaching in my classroom. They will teach my students about the lives of the Native Americans who were the original founders of our great country. They will learn of their contributions to our culture and society. After beginning our study of history with the Native Americans, we will explore the world of American Folklore. There my students will continue to build a foundation about the history of our country. It is difficult to teach 2nd graders about the past so long ago, but these class literature sets will allow them to see it come alive on the pages. The class sets will be used for years and years to come furthering there impact even farther. Teaching all of the required state standards can be difficult, but by integrating the subjects of literature and social studies my students will benefit greatly as they will be even more ready for the history of South Carolina in 3rd grade. Help make this project happen for my amazing students.
I spend a lot of my own money on my classroom every year.
I could buy a few of these books each year and eventually get a set or two. Together with other donors, your donation, whether large or small, can help make a huge impact in the lives of my 17 students this year! Multiply those 17 by the 20 years I have left until retirement and you can see that your donation will impact approximately 340 students.
