Providing Safety and a Healthy Classroom for Students and Adults

Help me give my students and assistants protection when working in person. These desk shields will support our classroom in providing safety during center time.

My Students

I work in a Life Skills classroom at an urban middle school. My students have a wide range of challenges and services. My students are amazing. I am new to this field working with Life Skills students and I was worried about starting a new school year with all new protocols.

My students are dedicated and love to learn.

They try so hard every day to be a team, to persist through challenges, to work hard and participate, help each other and their school. We work together in the class in centers, independent work, group work, and one on one. I could not have been any luckier with a great group of students and school.

My students deserve to have a safe and healthy classroom, it is my turn to give back the love and support their needs. I need more adaptive and safe furniture to include all my students in lessons and workstations so I can support their physical and educational needs.

My Project

Many of our students will need one on one support when in the classroom and having more PPE equipment like face shields and desk shields will support the adults and students to work together and be safe in the process.

There are many ways to use the desk shields during center and one on one instruction time that will benefit my students and their accommodations.

They maintain a physical barrier while allowing visual interaction – no need to lean over or around the barrier to see and be seen, to hear and be heard. The objective is to contain the student and the throw of their breath without limiting their ability to communicate, allowing social interaction with other students and adults.
