Providing a Good Bass

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are among the most diverse in the city of Richmond. Even in this urban environment we are able to have enriching experiences from so many different perspectives. Many of my students are able to have their own instruments without using much of the school's inventory.

However, the school's instrument choices are still limited.

Our goal here at Hill is to have more a variety of instruments so that students who face different economic challenges have access to a wide range to fit their musical needs.

My Project

The students at Albert Hill are among those who can afford personal instruments for their needs. The majority of students tend to use woodwind instruments and lighter brass instruments. If the students had the opportunity to do so, they would try bass brass instruments as well.

But they do not have that opportunity due to the school's instrument inventory.

So we are looking at every chance to be able to provide new/used instruments so students can have better choices.

The lack of low brass harms developing ensembles so right now we are starting with the biggest instrument we do not have available...a Tuba. We look forward to your helping our program grow!
