My Project

Our next unit in honors physics is thermodynamics. For this unit I could use some assistance with equipment.

As part of the thermodynamics unit students will make steam powered heat engines out of copper or aluminum boilers.

We use up a lot of copper tubing during this project, and so could use your support with purchasing that for the class. We have tin snips, pipe tubing benders, and all the other items we need, but copper is the big spendy item that I just never have room in my tiny LAUSD budget for. We also are looking forward to adding an analysis of waste heat and inefficiency to this unit, which is what the infrared camera is for.

We have five steam engines, and a number of internal combustion engine parts of my old 289" from when I rebuilt the engine in my mustang. I'd like to augment the steam engines and actual engine parts with an air driven heat engine (Stirling Engine) and a working model internal combustion gasoline engine (Discovery).
