Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How can students complete assignments when they do not have access to the necessary lessons needed to continue their learning at home. Our school has a limited budget; therefore, we need to source these items elsewhere.

My students come from economically disadvantaged homes.

My classroom is composed of 75% English learning students, who happen to live in a condensed community within the inner city. Our school has almost reached 100% free and reduced-price meal program. Now that they are at home transitioning to distance learning they need lessons that are well designed and comprehensible to meet their learning needs. Due to their limited English acquisition, students need additional support through visuals, videos, tutorials, and depend on continuous Zoom meetings with their teacher. It is through these synchronous lesson meetings that can I provide adequate support and my students can complete their assignments. Not only do these Zoom meetings help my students' academic achievement but they also provide social-emotional support as they connect with one another and continue to foster their learning community.

My Project

This first month of distance learning has been challenging not just for students but for teachers as well. How are students to benefit from distance learning when the teacher's seven-year-old computer can not fully function to capacity? This is why I am asking you to fund a Microsoft Surface Pro and therefore I can continue creating engaging lessons for my students. Another reason why a teacher needs adequate technology during this time, is to connect live with students that have social emotional needs. Teachers must check, meet, give feedback at all times of the day. It is not a regular workday because now we must be available to answer questions at all times, our students deserve this.
