This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a primarily low-income neighborhoods, most qualify for free or reduced lunch and transportation, and we are designated as a Title 1 school. My students live in unpredictability. There is a lot of change and instability that they face in their day to day lives. As a small school, we do our best to support this, but their arts classes are especially unpredictable due to programming and undefined budgets.

My students love tactile experiences and getting to work with materials that "real artists" use in their work.

The more skill and specialty items they are introduced to, the more engaged they become.

My Project

I am asking for an Aluminum Frame Display Wall, 23 Artist Panels and Balsa Foam Class Packs.0 The display board will go a long way each year. I have started what is now an annual Arts Show at my school, and each year students help me build displays from cardboard. I know they would appreciate a more stable and streamlined appearance for presenting their work at arts shows and class critiques.

I want my students to gain experience with a variety of materials.

They love sculpting and these balsa foam blocks would provide a great and easy to use material for acquainting students with form and reduction. Likewise, the Artist Panel Gessoed boards would provide my students with another surface to work on, especially for those who get heavier into acrylics or enjoy melting crayon, or would like a smoother texture.
